What did I do on my day off?
Today started off pretty good. We woke up a little later than normal and took Sophie to her 2 week checkup, which went great, by the way. She weighed 2 oz over her birth weight and the red spot on her eyelid was a deep scratch of broken capillaries, not a strawberry hemangioma like we were suspecting.
We then went home to get online to find something to do with our day off. There was nothing....pretty common since Katrina. So, we went out in the back yard to play, since the weather was great. Like any other time I go in the back yard, I found stuff to work on. Today, I decided to clean up the remaining chimney trash from the Hurricane. I took the old chimney, some scrap wood, and a broken plastic kiddie-pool to the street for trash pickup.
Welllll, the lazy-ass trashmen left EVERYTHING on the side of the street where I left it. I know it wasn't in a can, but is a 2lb piece of aluminum and a 30lb. pool too much for their panzy-asses to throw in the truck? They actually made the effort to take some of the wood out of the can a threw it on the ground next to the abandoned pool!!!
So, anyway, after flipping the bird to their tailights, I proceded to cut up the wood and aluminum with my Ryobi cordless reciprocating saw. After all of that was in small enough pieces to fit in the can, I went at the pool. Before I tell everyone what happened, I have to say that after 8 years of use, my dad bought me a quality power tool.
That Ryobi saw was RIPPING through that plastic pool, right up until I thought to my self, "I should probably find a better place to put my foot." Exactly one second later, the blade jumped out of the pool and into my heel.
The Doc that sewed me up said that I showed no major damage, but an inch to the left and the blade may have torn into my Achilles tendon. OWWW!
Anyway, let this be a lesson to every body out there. If your using a reciprocating saw, wear clothing more protective than flip-flops. And if I am using the saw and I ask you to stabilize the material with your foot....don't!
