Monkey Suit
Well, today I did a little dance for the "Man" again. I had another interview, this time, with Textron Land and Marine Systems.
Actually, this is a great company! I am very impressed with how they handle their employees, especially post-Katrina. My neighbor is a program manager for them, and I have been milking his brain for info.
I assumed that, when I got an email requesting an interview, that my neighbor was instumental in securing the interview. But, it turns out that I was brought in, based on the fact that I had submitted a resume for a position there, prior to speaking with my neighbor. The position I applied for, however, was such that I was a little "overqualified" and required a lot of time away from home.....like a year at a time with two weeks R&R in between! I stated that I was, in fact, hoping to transition to a MORE stable lifestyle that the Navy, so the recruiter canceled my interview appointment on the spot and rerouted me to speak with someone else. The interview went great, and I am hoping to be called back for another interview in the near future. The guy I spoke with was very reassuring and positive that such a meeting would take place. Keep your fingers crossed!
Anyway, this whole process has spawned a new interest of mine in the corporate world. I have discovered that some of the things I have learned and experienced in the Teams are directly applicable in the business world. Angie finds the whole situation comical, from my willingness and enjoyment to wear a suit, to my appreciation of business development concepts, such as Six Sigma. I think she asks me questions, just to get a laugh, when she listens to me go one about this new potential career path. After she gets me talking, she trys to keep a straight face, but soon gets a funny little smirk. I guess she finds all the changes, associated with a transition to civilian life, pretty entertaining.
I hope the rest of this year, and this transition, continues to be as lighthearted and fun.
