Deep Thoughts, Version 2.0!
Was up my peeps?!
I decided to make an effort to match Angie in her frequency of blog entries. I think it's funny that everyone uses Angie as the basis to which all blogs should be compared, but I guess it is a compliment. She is pretty amazing, but hopefully this new and improved format will help me keep up.
Anyway, I also tested my skill with a soldering iron today. I fixed a toy doorbell for my neighbor. I was very proud of myself. She said that since I did so well with that, she needed me to fix her key fob as well.......figures!
Mom......need pics. Don't interrupt your weekend at the lake, but soon, please.
Ricky, when was the last time you blogged? July?
Gotta throw something out here. Angie and I had a sort-of argument about "The View". She watches it every night (Therefore, so do I if I want to sleep in the same bed). She defends the show by saying that it is not a liberal biased show because they show multiple viewpoints, including the conservative chick from Survivor. I say they allow her conservative viewpoint but then everyone turns on her and make her to look like an idiot. I always see her yield to what they say, but they never give credence to anything she says. It is obvious what general political aura the producers want to portray, since they have one conservative woman who is shy and demure, one neutral-party mediator (Barbara Walters), one loud-mouthed mother type (Red Haired Chick), and one overbearing, left-wing radical, obnoxious, dyke (Is a name really needed?). By the way, said dyke is always blurting out coments against the conservative right, that are combative and largely unsupportive to say the least. I will be the first to admit that the current administration has its problems and is probably due for a change, but if you make a statement that our government is "killing today's youth for no reason, and our troops are murdering innocent women and children in iraq", you BETTER have a supporting fact or two.
And yes, that is a direct quote. Someone needs to shut up stick to adoption advocacy and charity work!
Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing what others have to say about it. Angie says I should not get to have an opinion, because I don't watch the show enough, but I'm not sure I can stomach it long enough to get to that point.

Ok, I’ll bite. I watch The View every day – maybe not every minute, but most of it. I love your description of the one person with your point of view - “shy and demure”, while the descriptions of the other two are “loud-mouthed, overbearing, etc.” Seriously, I love getting other people’s perspective on things, because in my mind, Elisabeth is the total opposite of shy and demure – she’s just as loud and opinionated as the other people (ok, so I have to admit that your descriptions of the other two are closer to reality!). But, I also believe that no one on the show is coming from a place of hate. These people are actually friendly outside of work – Joy and Elisabeth go to plays together, and Elisabeth brings her daughter Grace over to Rosie’s for play dates. In my “view”, that’s how it should be. Just because people have different points of view, doesn’t mean they should hate each other. This is America, after all, and people have the right to have either opinion, and voice it.
P.S. I love the clubhouse! That was one of my favorite things when I was a kid. Your girls are lucky to have such an awesome Dad!
Yes, I agree that one of the many great things about this country is that everyone is allowed their opinion. I just feel that any opinion on the "View" that is not siding with liberal left is immediately overshadowed by a verbal onslaught of liberal ideas... (Much like the way Bill O'Reilly conducts his show, which annoys me equally)
And, while a person is allowed their point of view, any statements attacking ones character, or one that insinuates criminal activity or evil intentions should be required by law to be supported with fact. Rosie's statement that President Bush is sending America's sons and daughters to die, willy-nilly, and for no reason is one such unsupported and obsurd statement. And I find her statement that America's troops have killed more innocent women and children than terrorists absolutely offensive, both personally and professionally. She has made a statement that attacks the very nature of every military member serving currently. I'm no lawyer, but I consider such a statement slander. (Or libel, no dictionary available.)
Don't get me wrong, though. I do not dislike the people on the "View". I acknowledge that all on that show are truly good people. I realize that they unbelievable in their community service and charity efforts, and that they get along outside of work. I just don't approve of the combative and unwaveringly hateful attitude they display on the show, especially when they cannot support their statements with fact.
I'd like to point out that I said they "cannot" support their statements, not won't. They cannot, because they are not privy to the facts on both sides of the issue, because they are not on the front lines, getting their info first hand.
I think Rosie would argue that she supports the troops, so much so that she wants to see them come home alive, and not risk their lives for what she sees as an unjust war. I agree that her tactics maybe somewhat “combative” at times, but that only shows her conviction. There’s nothing wrong with a little conviction – you wouldn’t be blogging about this if you didn’t have conviction. The thing about conviction is, I’m pretty sure, that there’s no way you or I would change our convictions based on a tv show. And, at least there’s one thing we agree on – Bill O’Reilly is totally annoying! But, at least I can change the channel and not have to be away from my spouse!
Regardless of our differing points of view, I’m thankful you’ve devoted so much of your life to protecting our country. I’m also thankful you never had to serve in Iraq, although I know you would have done so proudly and without hesitation. That speaks volumes about your courage and conviction.
